WASHINGTON – Associate Attorney General Tom Perrelli, Office on Violence Against Women Director Susan B. Carbon and U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin James L. Santelle will visit the Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin and tour the tribe’s Recovery Act-funded Wellness Center on THURSDAY, JULY 29, 2010 at 8:45 A.M. CDT/9:45 A.M. EDT. The tribe received nearly $900,000 from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to help victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Using the funds, the tribe was able to maintain an existing position and hire a sexual assault counselor, two shelter aides and a specialized prosecutor with the grant. The tribe said that more victims of sexual assault are seeking help at the center than before, thanks to the improved resources. The tribe also reported that victims of domestic violence are receiving more specialized assistance for housing and employment needs.
