Last year’s winners included a community leader who built a public garden in Whitewater and a Jefferson businessman who created an incubator for start-up companies that demonstrate green practices.
“We see sustainability as promotion of ideas and efforts to show concern for the environment,” said K. Praveen Parboteeah, Environmental Achievement Award Committee chair and associate professor of management at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. “We welcome all ideas and projects related to that.”
The competition is a collaboration between the university and the city of Whitewater in their commitment to sustainability and to promote future collaboration between the university, businesses and the community.
Winners receive a plaque and will also be featured on plaques on display in the Whitewater City Hall and the UW-Whitewater Andersen Library. The City of Whitewater will also honor winners by planting and dedicating a tree in their name.
