MADISON – Every day, news media are working to adjust to challenges posed by the new ways information is being exchanged, including how they can develop diversity in the news.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication will host a panel discussion Wednesday, March 3, on diversity and the future of news.

The panel will feature Herbert Lowe, professional in residence at the J. William and Mary Diederich College of Communications at Marquette University and former president of the National Association of Black Journalists, and O. Ricardo Pimentel, editorial page editor of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and president of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.

Dan Lewerenz, a teaching assistant in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication and former president of the Native American Journalists Association, will moderate the panel.

The panel, offered as part of a journalism class on mass media and minorities, will start at 4 p.m. in Room 2650 of the Mosse Humanities Building, 455 N. Park St. It is open to the public, but students in the class will have preference for seating and asking questions in the question-and-answer session at the end of the discussion.
