All part of a 25th year Anniversary celebration

The Madison Fishing Expo(MFE) will be celebrating its 25th year February 26th through the 28th by allowing all current and retired military, and their immediate family, into the show free of charge. According to MFE, it’s one small way they can help honor the armed forces and all they do for the country.

Steve Hauge, former president and current board member of MFE, said it is their way to honor the men and women of our military.

“This really hits close to home to because so many units from the area are returning from deployment,” he said. “A very large portion of people that attend our show have served in one way or another and this is just one way we can honor them.”

Hauge added that the show decided to also allow immediate family into the show.

“We realize that loved ones also make a tremendous sacrifice while their husbands, wives and others are off serving their country so we decided to let them in for free too.”

Military personnel should were their uniform, or bring in military ID or DD214 Form, for free entry. There will also be a flag ceremony Saturday morning when the show starts.

For their 25h anniversary, the MFE will have more events and speakers than ever before. There will also be a free drawing compliments of the MFE for a Lund boat package valued at over $12,000.

Speakers at the event include Davey Hite, Dave Genz, Tommy Skarlis, Jim Kalkofen, Russ Wayre, Karen Savik, Dennis Radloff, Brett and Paul Staplemann, Tas Kaliska, Rick Krueger, and more!

There are several activities for kids from minnow races, to the trout pond. Free MFE fishing towels will be given away at the opening of each day, but supplies are limited.

A nonprofit show made up entirely of volunteers, the MFE uses all proceeds to fund fishing projects, scholarships, and other worthy activities in Dane County- over $600,000 to date.

Sponsors include NBC 15, Q106.3, Subway, Wisconsin Outdoor News, Discover Wisconsin, and Outdoor Wisconsin.

The show runs February 26-28. Hours are Friday 4 p.m.-9 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m.-7 p.m., and Sunday 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Go to http://www.madfishexpo.com for more information.
