MADISON – Governor Jim Doyle today announced that Dermatology Associates of Wisconsin, S.C. (DAW), based in Manitowoc in Manitowoc County, will receive a $310,000 Blight Elimination and Brownfield Redevelopment (BEBR) from the Department of Commerce for an expansion project.

“Brownfield grants help renew damaged or vacant land and provide communities with opportunities for additional reinvestment,” Governor Doyle said. “I’m pleased that we could help DAW reclaim a brownfield for productive use and help the company create family-supporting jobs.”

Dermatology Associates of Wisconsin, S.C. (DAW) is a dermatology physician group practice with multiple locations throughout Northeast Wisconsin. It must expand its administrative central services location in downtown Manitowoc since the existing 5,000-sq.-ft. facility is operating at maximum capacity. It will use its grant to fund remediation costs incurred in constructing a five-story, 50,000-sq.-ft. central service building at 801 York St. in Manitowoc. The project will create 124 jobs and result in a total investment exceeding $6.7 million.

Commerce’s BEBR Program provides grant funds to municipalities, local development corporations, and the private sector to support assessment, remediation and return of contaminated lands to productive use. Brownfields are abandoned, idle, or underused industrial or commercial properties where redevelopment is hindered by significant soil and/or groundwater contamination.
