A construction law workshop will be offered at the Wisconsin Learning Center in Stevens Point by the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

The workshop will be held Friday, February 26, at the Wisconsin Learning Center in the Portage County Business Park from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The registration fee is $149 per person or $125 per person if three or more people from the same organization attend. The fee includes materials and lunch/breaks.

The Safety and Buildings Division of the Wisconsin Department of Commerce has approved this course for seven hours of continuing education credit for the Dwelling Contractor Qualifier Certification.

Designed to help people in the construction industry understand construction law in Wisconsin and how to work with attorneys, topics will include the legal requirements of a valid contract, rights and liabilities of parties to a contract, procedures for obtaining enforceable liens, legally collecting debts and remedies for breach of contract.

The workshop will be taught by Erv Steiner, a UW-Madison Law School graduate and practicing attorney with extensive experience in construction law. Steiner is also an associate professor in the College of Business at UW-Eau Claire where he has taught business law since 1972.
