SELF Magazine places Madison at #8 out of 100 in its article, “The healthiest places for women” in its November issue. Madison was noted for having one of the lowest average body mass indexes and Madison women reported spending more time getting fit than any other city in the country! Even better, cancer and disease mortality rates are about 15 percent lower than the national average.

Pulling data from 100 U.S. metro areas SELF analyzed 7,700 bits of information to get a comprehensive breakdown to determine the healthiest places for women. An expert panel analyzed over 50 categories such as death and disease rates, environmental indicators and community resources to rank each city.
