New North partnership accepts funds for industry worker training

NEW NORTH, June 18, 2009 – Wisconsin Wind Works, a regional partnership through the New North, has received a $25,000 grant from the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development to help train workers for the wind energy industry.

“Wind energy is one of the targeted industry clusters of the New North, and we’ve had a great deal of success in establishing Northeast Wisconsin as the go-to location for wind component manufacturers and suppliers,” said Jerry Murphy, Executive Director of the New North, Inc. “This industry has a lot of potential for further growth in the New North, and this training grant will go a long way towards ensuring our workforce is well-prepared to capitalize on that growth.

Wisconsin Wind Works is a consortium of manufacturers representing the wind manufacturing supply chain within Wisconsin. The group has created a Supply Chain Directory for the industry, providing detailed information on 250 companies in the state that can provide a number of services to the wind energy industry.

The Fox Valley Workforce Development Board was awarded the grant for the Wind Works initiative.
