Orion Energy Systems: Executive participates in first Green Jobs Summit on Capitol Hill

Orion selected for strong commitment to creating technologies that power our economy

MANITOWOC, Wis. — June 19, 2009 — Orion Energy Systems’ (Nasdaq: OESX) Executive Vice President Mike Potts on Wednesday participated in the first United States Senate Democratic Green Jobs Summit on Capitol Hill.

Orion was invited to participate by Wisconsin Sens. Herb Kohl and Russ Feingold, who selected Orion for the company’s strong commitment to creating jobs in Wisconsin and creating the technologies that will power the economy.

The Green Jobs Summit, which was hosted by the Senate Democratic Steering and Outreach Committee, was held to demonstrate the Senate’s commitment to create clean energy jobs, invest in our nation’s economic future and secure our energy resources.

Vice President Joe Biden addressed the business, labor and environmental leaders who attended the summit, thanking them for their commitment to grow a clean energy economy that will make America the engine of innovation in the 21st century.

“This first Green Jobs Summit demonstrates the important commitment the Senate has made to investments in the clean energy technologies that will help our economy recover and wean the U.S. off foreign oil,” Potts said. “Orion’s technology has created quality jobs, not only for Wisconsin workers, but for contractors nationwide and helped thousands of companies save on energy consumption and costs.”

More than 25 U.S. Senators attended the summit, including Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), Senate Democratic Steering and Outreach Committee Chair Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.), Senate Democratic Conference Secretary Patty Murray (D-Wash.) and Senate Environment and Public Works Committee Chair Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.).

Also addressing the Summit was Van Jones, a special advisor to President Barack Obama on the White House Council on Environmental Quality, and Deputy Secretary of Energy Daniel Poneman.
