Hawks Nursery will be planting a twelve to fifteen foot Sienna Glen Maple on Arbor day, April 24th in honor of landscaping pioneer John Orton. The tree will be planted at 11:00 am near the new picnic pavilion overlooking McKinley Marina (near the former location of the Coast Guard station). Joe Kresl, current owner of Hawks Nursery will be present to reflect on John’s life as well as the contributions he made to the landscaping industry in Wisconsin and to the community as a whole.

John Orton passed away in September of 2008 at the age of 81. He was a founder of the Wisconsin Landscape Contractors Association (WLCA) and former owner of Hawks Nursery Company where he worked for 43 years. Orton was also a former president of the Wisconsin Nursery Association, and served on the boards of the American Landscape Contractors Association and the Wisconsin Green Industry Federation (WGIF). He was inducted to the WGIF Hall of Fame in 2005 for his lifetime of contributions to the advancement of the landscape industry.

Friends, family, colleagues, and anyone interested is welcome to attend the Arbor Day tree planting ceremony in John’s honor.
