Governor Doyle Names Thomas McAdams as Tax Appeals Commissioner

MADISON – Governor Jim Doyle announced today the appointment of Thomas McAdams as Tax Appeals Commissioner. The three-member Tax Appeals Commission is an independent agency that hears and decides disputes between persons or entities and the Department of Revenue involving all major, state-imposed taxes. McAdams will begin serving on September 2, 2008 and will serve a term ending March 1, 2011.

“Thomas McAdams has dedicated his career to serving the people of Wisconsin,” Governor Doyle said. “His broad legal experience and understanding of tax law will be a great asset to the commission.”

“I am very pleased Governor Doyle has appointed me to this important position and I fully appreciate the associated responsibilities,” McAdams said. “I am honored to be serving in this statewide capacity and I am looking forward to the important work ahead.”

Thomas McAdams has served as an Assistant District Attorney in Milwaukee County since 1987 and has previously worked at Reinhart, Boerner, Van Deuren, Norris & Rieselbach as an associate in the Tax Department. Thomas received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Wisconsin, a Juris Doctor from the University of Wisconsin Law School, and his LLM in Taxation from DePaul University. He has worked as a volunteer Trial Advocacy Instructor at Marquette Law School, an instructor at the Sheriff’s Training Academy, and as a member of the Governor’s Task Force on Highway Safety. Thomas and his wife Patrice live in Greendale.
