Governor Doyle Proclaims State Employee Recognition Day

MADISON – Governor Doyle proclaimed today, Wednesday, May 7, 2008, as State Employee Recognition Day, to honor the many contributions of state employees.  The Governor commended state employees across Wisconsin and called on citizens to recognize state employees’ exemplary contributions.


 


“As Governor, I have the privilege of working with thousands of state employees every year and I am always impressed by the hard-working men and women who provide critical services and support every day to Wisconsin citizens,” Governor Doyle said.  “The work of Wisconsin’s state employees ensures that Wisconsin will continue to be a safe, vibrant, affordable, and healthy place for our children and future generations of Wisconsin citizens.”


 


Among the many programs and services carried out for the benefit of working families throughout Wisconsin, state employees:



  • Administer programs like SeniorCare and Badgercare Plus to give all Wisconsin citizens access to quality health care and prescription drugs;

  • Provide incentives and assistance to entrepreneurs and existing Wisconsin businesses to ensure that high-wage jobs are created and retained in Wisconsin;

  • Deliver emergency heating assistance to working families who are struggling with high energy costs;

  • Protect and preserve our state parks, forests, waterways and historical sites, giving Wisconsin families access to a host of low-cost, healthful, and educational recreational opportunities;

  • Responsibly manage the resources of state government, ensuring that essential services continue to be delivered while administrative costs are significantly reduced;

  • Protect the public safety of our neighborhoods and improve emergency preparedness in our communities;

  • Maintain our excellent state transportation system;

  • Deliver a first-class education at University of Wisconsin campuses, while keeping tuition affordable for middle-class families; and

  • Promote our state’s dynamic tourism industry, helping to sustain hundreds of family-run businesses throughout the state.

 


“I hope you’ll take the opportunity this week to thank state employees for their hard work and dedication in providing public services that maintain the quality of life we enjoy in Wisconsin,” Governor Doyle said.  “State employees are working hard to make sure vital programs like public education and health care are affordable for middle class and working families.  I thank all state employees for their hard work and dedication.  Their commitment to public service makes Wisconsin a state we all can be proud of.”
